What "Built to Order" Actually Means and Why It's Worth the Wait

If you've ordered from us before, you already know the timeline: place your order, Conrad calls to confirm, you pay by EFT, and then your implement gets built — 14 to 21 working days, start to finish. If you're ordering for the first time, that wait can feel like an odd thing to sign up for in an age where everything ships next day. Here's why it's actually the better deal, not a compromise.

Nothing sits on a shelf getting rusty

A shelf-stock implement has already been sitting somewhere — in a yard, in a container, sometimes for months — before it ever reaches you. Paint fades, bearings sit unused, steel gets exposed to weather it wasn't working in yet. When we build to order, your implement goes from raw A-grade steel to a finished machine specifically for your order, with nothing ageing in between.

You're not paying for someone else's guess

A supplier holding shelf stock has to guess in advance what sizes and configurations will sell, and price in the risk of guessing wrong — implements that don't move, discounts to clear them, storage costs. Building to order means we're not carrying that risk, and that's part of how we keep pricing straightforward with nothing hidden.

Custom sizes are actually possible

Because nothing is pre-built, if you need a size we don't list on the site, it's a real option, not a special favour. Tell Conrad what you're running and what you need it to do, and he'll tell you straight whether it's something we can build and what it'll cost.

What the 14–21 days actually covers

That window isn't sitting in a queue — it's the real time it takes to cut, weld, and finish a piece of equipment properly in our Potchefstroom workshop. It starts once your payment is confirmed, not the moment you place the order, since we only start cutting steel once a sale is real.

What happens while you wait

You're not left wondering. Conrad calls within a working day of you placing the order to confirm exactly what you're getting and answer any questions about fit or timing. Once payment reflects, the build starts, and Ingrid coordinates getting it to you — delivered to your farm or ready for collection in Potchefstroom, whichever you chose at checkout. Full details on how that works are on our Payment & Delivery page.

The guarantee that comes with it

Every implement we build carries a 6-month guarantee against manufacturing and workmanship defects — worth reading through on our Returns & Guarantee page before you order, so you know exactly what's covered.

Still deciding what you actually need?

If you're not sure whether you need a slasher or a haymaker, or what size fits your tractor, have a read through our guide on choosing between the two first — better to get the right implement built than to wait 14 days for the wrong one.

Questions about your specific order or timeline? WhatsApp Conrad on 072 354 6205 — he'll give you a straight answer, not a guess.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does it take 14–21 days instead of shipping right away?

Because nothing is pre-built. Your implement is cut, welded, and finished specifically for your order once payment is confirmed, not pulled from existing shelf stock.

Can I get it faster if I need it urgently?

WhatsApp Conrad on 072 354 6205 and explain your timeline — he'll tell you honestly whether anything can be done, rather than promising something that isn't realistic.

Does the wait start when I place the order or when I pay?

When payment is confirmed. Conrad calls within a working day of your order to confirm details, and the build clock starts once payment reflects.

What if I need a custom size?

Tell Conrad what you're running and what you need — custom sizes are genuinely possible since nothing is pre-built, not a special exception.

Have a question about this guide?

Conrad builds these implements in Potchefstroom and is happy to help you choose the right gear or troubleshoot.
